SUCCESSFUL SECOND ZONE MEETING

The members of the Lions clubs Gros Islet, Castries, Micoud, Vieux Fort and Piton (Soufriere) together with the Leo Club of Castries met on May 02 at their Second Zone meeting to report to the Zone Chairman on the activities of the Clubs.

The theme for the meeting was “Commitment.”
“There’s a difference between interest and commitment.
When you’re interested in doing something,
you do it only when circumstance Permit.
When you’re committed to something
You accept no excuses, only results.”
(Thomas Robbins)

The Guest Speaker at the Zone Meeting was Ms Charlery from Eastern Caribbean Financial Holding (ECFH; she addressed the gathering on the topic “How to manage in a Recession”. Some of the personal strategies that could be undertaken include:

• Live within a Budget
• Review budget to see what can be cut off
• Avoid waste
• Reconsider major expenses – defer where necessary
• Involve the entire family in the budgeting process
• Recycle whatever that we can
• Buy in bulk where possible
• Maintain a minimum saving equivalent to your total expense
for nine (9) months
• Consolidate loans where possible
• Cutback unnecessary expenses
• Save windfalls
Always remember that it is highly probable that things will change and things may have to be reviewed

The Zone Chairman in his remarks highlighted challenges and requested that the Clubs focus on the following:

• Appoint a Board to run the affairs of the Club that is realistic –
not because of friendship but skill
• Build on membership – try to attract quality members
• Members’ involvement must be tangible
• Reports and information must be disseminated in a timely manner
• Improve communication
• Review commitment to serve
• Care for each other

note: We must all continue to give of our time, resources and selves. We are all individuals with priorities which sometimes inhibit our ability to give freely or commit. We need to structure our time wisely and assist each other in achieving our goals. Therefore the least we can do is to be interested, IT'S A START
