Lions Observe World Diabetes Day

 Lions and Leos participate in Health Fair to mark 
World Diabetes Day
In observance of World Diabetes Day the members of the Lions and Leo clubs of Castries joined the Saint Lucia Diabetic and Hypertensive Association  and its many partners  in mounting a men's health fair at the Dereck Walcott Square, Castries.The aim of the fair was to Unite with partners in the fight against Diabetes as it has been recorded that Saint Lucia has the highest rate of diabetes per capita.

Members of the Lions Club of Castries and the St Lucia Blind Welfare Association conducted eye screening.
The main sponsor of the annual Walk against Diabetes Super J   promoted healthy foods
The Lions and Leos undertook the Registration for the annual walk on November 29, 2009.





The Leos also participated in the exercise demonstration


The other partners Ministry of Health conducted Diabetes and hypertension testing and education

                                                       The highlight of the day was the presentation of a pair of new crutches to a diabetic who has been living with the disease  from age 29.  He had his left leg amputated at age 34.  His testimony to the audience was that your health is your responsibility - take control.
