Lion Lydia Elliott's message for the year is as follows:
I joined the Lions Club of Castries, like every other person who joins, ‘to serve’ and to be of assistance to those in need. Our mission, no doubt. I was attracted primarily by the feeding programme, as explained to me by a Senior Lion, Mr Irvine James. On joining, I was happy to know that Lions served in many other areas that benefit the community.
As Lions, or other wise, we must have all experienced how gratifying it is to give and assist those in need, unconditionally. I think this is why we were created on earth since the greatest joy to me is to give unconditionally and be overwhelmed by the sincere appreciation of those in need. Our Lions International founder, Melvin Jones, personal code, was "You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else”, and "As Muhammed Ali stated; “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth”. As President, I will continue our Club’s work and seek to ensure that we are fully engaged in service to our community, in the programs or areas sanctioned by Lions International and our District Governor.
Before becoming a member of the Castries Lions Club I thought that all Lions were part of one Club in Saint Lucia and I was not aware that within our 238 square miles, and amongst our population of about 180,000 people and the numerous other service clubs, there were 4 Lions Clubs: the Castries, Micoud, Gros-Islet, Vieux Fort and Piton Lions Clubs. Having regard to our topography and road network the decentralization of Lions Clubs is laudable. However, in unity there is strength. Notwithstanding the role of the Zone Chairman, there appears to be a burning need for us to forge greater alliances with our fellow Lions in the execution of projects at the Community, as well as, at an Island–Wide level. This would greatly enhance our visibility and recognition as a Club committed to serving our respective communities.
THEME : “UNITED IN SERVICE, FELLOWSHIP AND LIONISM”
