INTERNATIONAL LEO DAY -DECEMBER 5 2012

LEO CLUB OF CASTRIES OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL LEO DAY - DECEMBER 05,  2012

Leos with the District Governor and Leo District Officer

The Lions Club of Castries join with our District Governor, Lion Claudius (Tony) Buncamper, Region Chairman, Lion Rhon Stephens and Zone Chairman Lion Beatrice Mac Donald in congratulating the members of the Leo Club of Castries as they observe International Leo Day on December 05, 2012.

The Objective of the Leo movement is -   To provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.

The Motto is:
LEADERSHIP – Develop skills as a project organizer, time manager and team leader.
EXPERIENCE – Learn how teamwork, cooperation and collaboration can bring exciting changes to your community and the world.
OPPORTUNITY – Make friends and feel the rewards of community service.

In Saint Lucia the Leo Club Program has been growing strong and on April 07, 2012 celebrated twenty-eight years of existence.  Community service remains the cornerstone of the program. Like their Lion counterparts, Leo club members enjoy serving their neighbors and watching positive results unfold while having fun.

The Leo Club of Castries has continued its work with the elderly and embarks on their monthly feeding on the first Saturday of every month.    Through partnerships with other like minded organizations they engage in environment preservation activities and were awarded the Prize for the most exotic piece of garbage found during one of the clean-up campaigns.

They have also partnered with Super J and are a constant at their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. As was done Last year Super J will again partner with them for their annual Christmas Feeding on Saturday December 15, 2012 at the Ave Maria Infant School.

The Leos  work along with their sponsoring Lions Club – the Lions Club of Castries in engaging in youth development activities, HIV/AIDS and Diabetes Education.  Lions and Leos have been challenged by Helen Keller to be knights of the blind and in answer to that the Leo Club serves as an active member of the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association.  They also actively participate in the annual KIDS In Sight programme of the SLBWA and the Lions of Saint Lucia.

Internationally Spotlight on Children is the international service project of Leo clubs. Spotlight on Children projects give Leos the opportunity to enrich the lives of children by:

• Collecting food and clothes for local street children

• Repairing playgrounds

• Implementing after-school tutoring programs

• Visiting children in hospitals

• Raising funds for immunization programs

Through projects like these, Leo clubs bring hope and laughter to needy children, especially on December 5, International Leo Day.
To join in the celebration Leos are challenged to invite a potential new member to your next club meeting, plan your next service project, or write a quick thank you to the lion or Leo who introduced you to the Leo Club Programme.
