OECS COURTS (St. Lucia) READING COMPETITION









 Lions Club of Castries partnered with Courts (Unicomer) to host the Saint Lucia finals of the OECS Reading Competition. The competition, which is into its sixth year, comprises the reading of a Narrative Piece and News Item and is opened to all primary school students who are eight or nine years of age, in the nine member stats of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States. Each school may enter one participant who will compete at the District Level. The winner from each District will advance to the National Round where he/she will compete for the title of National Reading Champion.
The National Reading Champion will then represent their island at the Regional Competition Students will be judged on pronunciation, intonation, fluency, accuracy, expression and voice control. The Courts OECS Reading Competition is aimed at supporting the reading and literacy development of students. Principals and teachers are urged to encourage students to do their best and view the competition as a stepping stone.
The finals of the competition took place on September 30. 2014 and the club presented book packages to the eight finalists. This partnership with courts through the ECS Reading Competition is the contribution of the Castries lions to raising the awareness of the importance of reading.
