48th Charter Anniversary & Installation of Officers
The Lions Club of Castries held its Charter Anniversary and Installation of Officers’ Dinner on Saturday June 27 at the Coco Creole Hotel.
The Lions Club of Castries was chartered on June 24, 1967 by the Georgetown Lions club. This saw the birth of lionism in Saint Lucia with Lion Victor Joseph serving as the first President. The club has grown over the years from a male dominated club to a diverse club, when they embraced the changes in the policies of Lions Clubs International that allowed women (who served as Lionesses) to become Lions. Since then a number of women have served at the helm of the Lions Club of Castries.
Lion Beatrice Mac Donald who served as the 47th president was extremely grateful for having been given the opportunity to serve in an era when lionism is changing, and even the face of volunteering. Looking back at her year she highlighted the many highs and low in a very informative presentation. One common thread throughout the presentation was the need for Lions to continue to focus on the challenge given by Past District Governor Isaac Solomon to build a path to service Excellence.
The Service excellence that the District Governor highlighted “is about creating value for all stakeholders; it is about empowering our communities to become self-reliant; it is about igniting the passion within those who serve; it is about making a difference in the world we live, in the full knowledge that there are people who are counting on us.” In so doing the members of the Lions Club of Castries should strive to make Service Excellence a habit in the Club.
The Installation Ceremony for the New Board of Directors to serve for the lionistic year 2015-2016 saw Lion Nial Beaton Snr. Being installed as the 48th President. His theme for the year is “Looking Beyond with PRIDE”. His focus was on strengthening the bond with the Leo Clubs of Castries - a program of the Lions Club of Castries. He indicated that the Leos should be seen as our children and should be embraced and nurtured so that they will be equipped to take over the mantle of leadership and carry lionism for centuries to come. He challenged Lions to change. Change the approach to volunteering, approach to doing things and to membership in the Club.
He viewed Change as an all embracing concept that should be made a reality. We should accept the changes that are taking place in our community, our island, our region and in Lions Clubs International as an organization. It is only when we can embrace the change that we can effectively serve in the ever dynamic organization.
Appreciation was shown to a number of lions who had contributed in different roles. The club captured the District Award for Public Relations.
Members were also recognized for their participation in the President's "Daily Acts of Service Challenge".
For this coming lionistic year the International President Lion Dr JITSUHIRO YAMADA has highlighted Peace, Hope, Determination, Teamwork and Uniting people through service as the central elements of his presidential theme – Dignity. Harmony. Humanity.
• Dignity - through Humanitarian Service
• Harmony - through Cultural Exchange and Joint Global Projects
• Humanity - Bringing It All Together
The Lions club of Castries would like to express our appreciation to the many Individuals, Agencies, Service Organizations, Other Lions and Leo Clubs and the Private and Public Sector Organizations who contributed to the success this year. We look forward to your continued collaboration and support as we strive to serve the needs of the less fortunate in our community – Saint Lucia.
