MEET THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR 60B

Lion June Lesline McCatty MJF

District Governor 60B  -  2010-2011

June McCatty MJF is a native of Mandeville, Jamaica; a mother, an educator and most importantly, an outstanding Lion. . A Lion for over 28 years, she keeps a number of books in which she makes copious notes on plans and strategies she dreams up for the movement.

In the Lions club of Mandeville she has served as President three times and has held every other position on the board of directors. Her first position at the District level was in 1988 and since then she has consistently been asked to serve on the Cabinet or to hold a District position.

She has received numerous awards including Zone Chairman of the Year, Region Chairman Award, Lion of the Year and International President’s Service Award.

Synopsis of the District Governor’s Core Goals:

Youth Empowerment -To provide young people with opportunities for learning, skill acquisition and achievement

Leo Club Development - To provide Leos with opportunities for rendering service, ie. Giving back to the community.

Geriatrics and Senior Citizen Care - To recognize or highlight their contribution to society

Membership Growth Recommitment and Development - To achieve strong membership results in the first three months of the year by having a positive membership growth by September 30, 2010.

Leadership Development and Participation - To uphold John Quincy Adams words “if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a Leader.”

Public Relation and Marketing - To erase the following phrase from the Lions vocabulary—” we are the best kept secret “ by each club running a successful public relations programme.

Health and Wellness - To encourage Lions and Leos to implement activites that promote healthy lifestyles

Programmes - This is a service area which will encourage activities on special days as well as activities in the areas of Environmental  Awareness and Disaster Preparedness and Safety.

Information Technology - To continue to manage, improve and encourage Lions and Leos to use the District Web Site

LIONS AND LEOS PARTICIPATE IN HOMECOMING

                               The Lions Club and the Leo Club of Castries prticipated in the partnership fair as part of the Homecoming activities.  The fair provided an opportunity to showcase the work that Lions and Leo are undertaking in communities around Castries.  It was also an opportunity to network with organizations with similar intersts who will assist in the furtherance of the work of the Club.   This fair also provided an avenue to mount a membership drive to target persons who showed interest in joining  the movement.

LIONS OF CASTRIES AND GROS ISLET INSTALL NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Saturday June 29, 2010 the Lions clubs of Castries and Gros Islet joined once again to install a new Board of Directors to manage the affairs of the clubs  for the lionistic year 2010/2011. The outgoing Presidents expressed their gratitude and praise for the many successful projects and activities they were able to execute during the last year but lamented the lack of significant growth in the Club.  Gros Islet was able to induct three new members while Castries  recorded no growth.

The Master of Ceremonies Lion Wayne Monrose implored members to search the communities and work places and each one bring in one, so that  when we move on we will be able to say that we have left a vibrant club behind.

The coveted award of Lions of the year 2009/2010 was captured by Liion Lesley-Ann Modeste.  The President in presenting the award described her as one who has shown commiuted, dedicaed service, a team player and one who is always willing to give support to the development of lioinism in Saint Lucia.

Retired North Carolina Pilot Elected President of Lions Clubs International

Taking Lions to New Heights 

Sid L. Scruggs III, of Vass, North Carolina, USA, was elected p[resident of the International Association of Lions Clubs at the Association's 93rd International Convention, held in Sydney Australia, June 28 - July 02, 2010.
President Scruggs is an experienced and effective leader with particular strength in leadership training, the mentoring of future leaders and membership development.  Using as his presidential theme "A BEACON OF HOPE".   
President Scruggs has this to say about Lions   “The difference for me with Lions is that it’s hands-on. I can go back and recount the stories of the difference we made in people’s lives,” says Scruggs. Lions are “Beacons of Hope,” he says. For the next year Scruggs will bring his message of hope to Lions worldwide. “I think people see things as they are,” he says. “Lions are different. We see things as they can be.”      Scruggs will make service to others the core Principle of Lions Clubs around the world.
