CASTRIES LIONS END THE YEAR IN SERVICE TO COMMUNITY

DECEMBER 18

On Sunday December 18 the Team of Lions Feeding at the Sisters of Mercy Home for the Elderly prepared the Christmas Treat for the residents. Gifts were presented to the sisters on behalf of the residents. As usual the residents were thankful and full of praise for the meal and the gifts.

 

 

 

The sisters presented the team with a Christmas Card to the Lions club of Castries, on behalf of the sisters and residents, in appreciation of the kind gestures. She indicated that the residents were always thankful and were forever keeping the lions in their prayers.

DECEMBER 25

As is customary the members of he Lions Club of Castries took time off from their Christmas celebrations to share a part of their Christmas lunch with the destitute in the environs of Castries. They were assisted in this activity by family members and friends. The President of the Reduit Football Club donated the juice on behalf of that Club. The recipients of the meal were thankful and in a number of cases expressed Christmas wishes to the group. A great thank you to the members of the Lions Club and their families and friends on behalf of the residents

CASTRIES LEOS SPREAD CHRISTMAS CHEER TO THE ELDERLY

THE LEO CLUB OF CASTRIES PARTNERED WITH SUPER J SUPERMARKET TO BRING CHRISTMAS CHEER TO THE ELDERLY IN CASTRIES

On Saturday December 18, the members of the Leo  Club of Castries in  partnership with a Team lead by Mrs Sorya Best spread Christmas Cheer to the senior destitute in the environs of Castries.  Super J Supermarket provided the ingredients and the  members of the Leo Club prepared the meal.  The residents were grateful for the sumptuous meal and expressed their thanks.    The Team from Super J Supermarket were grateful for being given the opportunity to be of service to community.  One member of the team expressed his gratitude for being given this opportunity and indicated his interest in continuing to be of service.

The Leo Club of Castries wishes to express it thanks to Super J Supermarket,through Mrs Sorya Best and her Team, for their support in making this activity the success that it was.  It is hoped that this is the beginning of a fruitful partnership.

TRIBUTE TO LION BELINA CLIFFORD- PAST ZONE CHAIRMAN 3B

The thanksgiving Service was held on Thursday December 22, 2011 at the St Lucy's National Shrine, Micoud to celebrate the life of Lion Belina Clifford, former Zone Chairman Zone 3B and founding member of the Micoud Lions Club.   The following tribute was delivered by the Zone Chairman, Lion Lyndell Gustave

Our Dear Heavenly Father, we are gathered here to pay our final respects to the memory of a friend and fellow Lion,

Lion Bellina, as a mortal, dedicated her life to her fellow men; patriotism to her country and service to her community  Hers was a life devoted to an industrious application of her vocation to the end, that she merited a reputation of service  Loyalty to her friends was known to all.  Here was a woman who held friendship as an end - not a means.  Hers was a philosophy which held that true friendship demanded nothing - accepting service in the spirit in which it was given.  Her every action and demeanour demonstrated her obligation as a citizen - giving unswerving loyalty by word, act and deed - she gave freely of her time, labour and means to the end.  Her every action was to render assistance to her fellowmen by giving sympathy to those in distress and to the weak and substance to the needy.

Here was a woman, whose every effort was directed towards the creation and fostering of a spirit of generous consideration for others.   She promoted and practiced the principles of good government - taking an active interest in the civic, commercial, social and oral welfare not only of her community, but also island wide.

In this out final meeting with a departing sister, we  honour her in death as we would have honoured her in life.

Christmas Cheer to Students of the Anse La Raye Infant School

On Saturday December 10,2011 the members of the Lions Club and Leo Club of Castries spent the afternoon with the students of the Anse La Raye Infant School.  To begin the festivity the students welcomed  lions and Leos with the familiar welcome song and expressed Christmas wishes.   The President indicated that it was a pleasure for lions to come to their community to make this season more cheerful for the students.   She promised that during the course of the afternoon the students would be given a big surprise. Various students displayed their talent in song, dance and poetry as well as participating in the number of games played - rabbit in a hole, musical cheers etc. There was lots to eat and drink and at 4 :00 p.m. Lion Santa -  Joe Gustave surprised the students. Santa spent time talking with the students about some of the values they needed to develop to become good boys and girls and presented each child with a gift. The day ended with the Lions, Leos, students and teachers coming together  singing  Christmas carols. The Principal thanked the Lions and Leos on behalf of the student and expressed the wish that this activity could be repeated in the coming year. The Lion President thanked them for welcoming us so warmly.

LEO CLUB OF CASTRIES OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL LEO DAY - DECEMBER 05

The Lions Club of Castries join with our District Governor, Lion Lloyd Barker, Region Chairman, Lion Gloria Thomas and Zone Chairman Lion Lyndell Gustave in congratulating the members of the Leo Club of Castries as they observe International Leo Day on December 05,2011


Coach Jim Graver started the Leo ball rolling in 1957 and chances are that ball was a baseball. Graver was the baseball coach of the Abington High School in Pennsylvania, USA and an active member of the Glenside Lions Club. With help from his fellow Lion, William Ernst, the first Leo club was charted on December 5, 1957.

As the world's first Leo club, the Abington High School Leo Club created the Leo acronym – Leadership, Equality, Opportunity – and they chose their school colors, maroon and gold to serve as the Leo club colors. Later, Equality was changed to Experience. In October 1967, the board of directors of Lions Clubs International adopted the Leo Club Program as an official program of the association.

The Objective of the Leo movement is -To provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.

The Motto is:

Leadership – Develop skills as a project organizer, time manager and team leader.

Experience – Learn how teamwork, cooperation and collaboration can bring exciting changes to your community and the world.

Opportunity – Make friends and feel the rewards of community service.

The Leo Club Program has been growing strong for over 50 years. Community service remains the cornerstone of the program. Like their Lion counterparts, Leo club members enjoy serving their neighbors and watching positive results unfold.

Sponsoring Lions clubs around the world contribute to the success of the Leo Club Program. When working with youth, Lions fill the role of mentor, motivator, counselor and role model. Sponsoring a Leo club also provides a way for Lions to mentor future community leaders and encourage future Lions.

Spotlight on Children is the international service project of Leo clubs. Spotlight on Children projects give Leos the opportunity to enrich the lives of children by:

• Collecting food and clothes for local street children

• Repairing playgrounds

• Implementing after-school tutoring programs

• Visiting children in hospitals

• Raising funds for immunization programs

Through projects like these, Leo clubs bring hope and laughter to needy children, especially on December 5, International Leo Day.

For over fifty years, Leos have served their communities, while developing leadership skills and establishing life-long friendships. To join in the celebration Leos are challenged to invite a potential new member to your next club meeting, plan your next service project, or write a quick thank you to the lion or Leo who introduced you to the Leo Club Programme. CASTRIES LIONS OBSERVE WORLD AIDS DAY 2011

This year marks the 23rd anniversary of World AIDS Day. First observed in 1988, World AIDS Day was initiated by health ministers from around the world who called for a spirit of social tolerance and a greater awareness of HIV/AIDS on an international scale.

The theme for this year's observance is "Getting to Zero"  - Zero New HIV Infections. Zero Discrimination, and Zero AIDS Related Deaths
