LIONS AND LEOS OF ZONE 3B FIRST ZONE MEETING

 

The Lions and Leos of Zone 3B (Saint Lucia) on Saturday August 27, 2016 met in Soufriere for the first Zone Meting for the lionistic year 2016-2017.   The meeting received reports from the various club Presidents which was summarized by the Zone Chairman in his presentation to the meeting.

The meeting then moved to a workshop session which was conducted by our very own Lion Cynthia Laurent of the Castries Club.   The objective of the workshop was to assist in identifying the challenges facing the clubs in the Zone and to develop strategies to deal with the challenges identified.   

The workshop began with an ice breaker which required each participant to complete the phrase I am a Lion/Leo because ………………….  The prize for the most innovative statement was received by Leo Yumica Modeste.   Her statement is “I am a Leo because I love being the rainbow in someone’s cloud.”  These statements will be collated and presented to the clubs. 

The workshop was conducted in the form of a SWOT in order to identify the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.   The meeting then broke up into four groups with each one looking at one aspect of the SWOT.  Following the group presentations the steps to developing an action plan to deal with the challenges were identified.    Each member was required list five of the challenges identified and to prepare and action plan for presentation to the Zone Chairman by September 30, 2016.  It is anticipated that the clubs will review their programs and develop actions plans for execution of these.

The Zone Chairman presented each club with a set of footballs to be used to undertake a youth development project in the various communities.  The Castries Lions, Castries Leos and Piton Lions Clubs were recognized and presented with tokens for timely submission of club reports.

The meeting ended with the clubs joining in singing the District Governor’s song “Lions Join the Love Train. 

  

CASTRIES LIONS AND LOES JOIN  WITH CLUBS IN ZONE 3B IN CELEBRATION OF  MASS  

On Sunday, August 21, 2016 the Castries Lions and Leos joined the other clubs in Zone 3B, Saint Lucia -- (Vieux Fort Lions, Soufriere Piton Lions, Gros Islet Lions, Micoud Lions and the Hewanorra Plains Leo) to celebrate mass at the St Joseph the Worker Church Roman Catholic Church in  Gros Islet.   The church service is to mark the commencement of the Lionistic year.  It was agreed that this would be done as a joint activity instead of each club organizing and celebrating separate services.   The service was followed by a Brunch which allowed the Lions and Leos to fellowship in a cordial atmosphere.

The Lions and Leos will next meet as a Zone on August 27 when Club Presidents will report on their plans and rate of implementation to date.

The Lions and Leos of Castries  continue their community service with a number of projects including  the monthly feeding at four locations,  - the Leos serve a breakfast on the first Saturday at the Ave Maria  Primary School; the Lions the third Sunday at the Mother Theresa Home for the Elderly, Hospital Road, The fourth Sunday the         St Lucy’s Home and the RC Boys School. -  ROAR LIONS AND LOES ROAR.

REWARD AND RECOGNITION

Each year the lions partner with the Carnival Planning and Management Agency in hosting the islands premier cultural festival Lucian Carnival.  Certificates of appreciation were presented to those members worked at the various shows.  

ROGER EUDOXIE AWARD

Today August 18, 2016, the Castries Lions presented two one time bursaries to two needy students as part of the Roger Eudoxie Scholarship.

The scholarship is an ongoing programme of the club which was renamed after our Past District Governor Roger Eudoxie. The scholarship offers support to needy students to facilitate their study at one of the island's secondary school.

This year because the programme is being reviewed by the Club, it was agreed that we offer two students a one time Bursary. The recipients of the bursaries will be attending the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (Form 3) and the Bocage Secondary School (Form 1) .

The presentation was made by his widow Esther Eudoxie . In her brief remarks, she congratulated the students on the award and implored them to continue to do their best to ensure that they succeed.

The President reminded the students of the need to give of their best and to remember that the Lions are always available to provide support in time of need.
