Lions World Sight Day is a global vision initiative sponsored by Lions Clubs International and Lions Clubs International Foundation. The event is held annually on the second Thursday of October in an effort to raise awareness about sight-related issues and has focused attention on eliminating preventable blindness and improving sight.
On October 13, the members of the Lions club of Castries collaborated with the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association and held a talk on preventable blindness with the Grade Five students of the Ave Maria Girls Primary school. The talk was delivered by Jessica Jacobie, who is visually impaired. The students were intrigued by her mobility and were interested in knowing some personal issues like the manner in which she cooked food and washed her clothes. The presentation was a very interactive and information sharing.
