SECOND ZONE MEETING ZONE 3B - SUB DISTRICT 60-B

The Lions and Leos of Zone 3B which comprise the Lions clubs of Gros Islet, Castries, Piton (Soufriere), Micoud, Vieux Fort and the Leo Club of Castries were hosted by the Lions Club of Gros Islet at the Bay Gardens In on Saturday January 14, 2012.  The meeting was to report to the Zone Chairman, Lion Lyndell Gustave on the clubs’ status, projects and activities for the second quarter of the lion’s fiscal year - (October – December 2011).

The reports highlighted the many service and community activities that were undertaken as well as challenges facing the clubs. One common thread was that of membership commitment and growth. In addition to challenging each member to bring in one new member before the end of the lionistic year, some of the strategies reported for dealing with this challenge include – the Leos introducing recognition and motivational awards; The Micoud and Castries lions undertaking reviews and in the case of Micoud a community evaluation is also to be undertaken. The Gros Islet Club to introduce the Buddy system to encourage camaraderie among members and the Vieux Fort club in addition to using its Web-site as a recruitment tool has devoted February for an extensive membership drive.

The Zone received a report from Lion Lesley Ann Modeste, Chairman of the Disaster Trust Fund on the status of the Disaster Trust Fund which was set up to provide humanitarian aid in times of natural disasters.

Lion Monica Felix, Family Nurse Practitioner reminded Lions and Leos of the need to include in their new year goals to undertake their physical examinations. For the women they were encouraged to undertake their pap-smears and breast examinations and the men their PSA test (prostate). Lions and Leos were also urged to donate blood as the supplies at the bank were very low

Congratulations to Leo Karyl Laurent who was newly elected as President of the Leo Club of Castries following the resignation of the President. Leo Stasha Stanislaus for capturing the Leo of the month (December) award, Leo Nathalia Christopher the disciplined Dues award and Leos Tonia Philgence and Onya Laurent the participation award.
The Lions and Leos all join in congratulating the Lions Club of Gros Islet as they observe the twentieth anniversary of their charter as a Lions Club on January 2, 2012.

(2) Region Meeting in St. Vincent - January 27 29

(3) Gros Islet Club charity Golf Tournament February 25.
